Tuesday’s here already this week, which means time for this week’s weekly update. Are you asking how many times I can put “week” in a sentence yet? This week in disc golf we have 2 minis, a congrats from Texas States, and an upcoming tourney in Big Spring. Plus we have set a date for the next Ash Mini, as well as the Heardimore. It was also decided Cody Newton will once again run this year’s Ace Race tourney, date TBD, and Jeanne will be TDing the Doubles which will happen in mid to late September.
First the congratulations: As many of you know 6 CVDGAers went down to Houston this past weekend to compete in the Texas State Championships at Tom Bass Park. First off let me say what a great event this is. If you can make it next year, do it you won’t regret it. Other than it being very windy, conditions were good as far as temps went, the people were very friendly, and the DG was great. Out of the 6 that made the trip 3 of us made the payout. Mikey finished tied for 8th out of 36 in Rec., Carl Wamsley not only cashed but end up taking home a trophy finishing tied for 2nd out of 13 in Open Grandmasters. Then Nick finished up in a tie for 6th out of 28 in a heavily stacked Open Division. Way to go guys!!! As for the rest of us, Cody finished 28th and I finished 26th, out of the payout in Int, and Patty finished in 25th also just a little out of the payout. All and all it was a great weekend for the CVDGA at all of our first, but surely not the last Texas State DG Championships. I’d also like to thank Frenchie(JR) for making the trip with us just to caddy and help out where he could for the ones playing. I know it was sure nice not carrying my bag those rounds. Hopefully we can get a bigger group to head that way next year!
MINIS
This week’s mid week mini is set for Picnic Bend. This week’s format is random doubles. As always teetime is 6pm. Just a side note about Picnic Bend, the last 2 minis held there have produced aces. Sounds like a hot course to me. Don’t miss out on your chance!!!
Sunday will be the EVERY Sunday random doubles at the lake. 2pm teetime.
All minis are $5 to play with an optional $1 ace pot.
West Texas Disc Golf Champions Tourney
The Annual W.T.D.G Champions Tourney is just 2 weeks away in Big Spring, Texas. Greg always puts on a great event, as well as always has a good turnout. If you have never played Big Spring you are missing out, this is one of West Texas best courses. 27 holes that pretty much will have you throwing all the throws in your bag. If you’re free head that way, you won’t be disappointed. I’ve attached a flyer so everyone has it.
Ash Mini
The next Ash Mini date has been set. For those that don’t know, an Ash Mini is a mini where we set up a temp course at a park and hold a mini. Easy enough right? The next Ash mini will again be down at South Concho Park on May 9th. The plan is to play 2 rounds of 18 holes (or 4 rounds of 9 depending on how you look at it), and lunch will be provided with your entry fee. It will be $10 to play in this one, and again that includes some brats for lunch. The format will more than likely be random doubles as is the case with most Ash Minis. Spread the word, these are always a ton of fun throwing at something different!
CVDGA TOURNEY SCHEDULE
HEARDIMORE
Well after some worry that the hEArdImOre experience wouldn’t happen this year. Frenchie has stepped up to the plate and is going to TD this event this year. The date for the event is May 30th, a little later than normal this year. So mark your calendars, more info will come as it gets closer on this one.
Ace Race
San Angelo will have their 2nd Ace Race this year. Cody Newton will TD this one once again. We are not sure on the date for this one yet, but it has to be in August, September, or October. Once we get it registered with Discraft we’ll get the dates out.
West Texas Doubles
Jeanne Moore will again be TDing the W.T. Doubles in September. This is a bring your own partner doubles event, held at all 3 courses in town. The date has not be locked down for this one yet, but looks like it will either be the 3rd of 4th weekend of September. Again more on this as it gets closer to time.
