Ok so I am once again a day late in getting out this week’s update. I apologize, but things are just really busy at work and this is when I could get to it. As for the this week in DG – we have a full mini schedule this week. The Ice Bowl is just a week and a half away in Eola. And the Crush is the main topic at board meetings these days so it must be creeping up on us as well. Other than an Ice Bowl type event in Junction next month there is still not a lot of area disc golf on the radar. We finally had 1 new person (THANK YOU DENISE) step up to fill the last open board position of 2013, so we will now once again have a full board to depend on this year….but the time is coming (about this time next year) where some new blood is going to have to step up or things will drastically change with disc golf here in San Angelo.
This is the last week I am going to ask for people to let me know you want to keep receiving the weekly updates. If I don’t get a reply by this time next week I’ll take it that you either don’t read them or don’t want to get it any longer. But if you do want to keep getting it all you have to do is hit the reply button and say something like “keep it coming”. Thanks!

Wednesday is set for random doubles at Picnic bend. 6pm teetime….dress warm and/or bring the right beverage to keep you warm cause it’s sure to be a cold night on the course! Saturday’s mini will be at random doubles at North Concho. 10am teetime Sunday is the weekly skins match at the lake. 2pm teetime.

Cost is $15 plus 3 cans of food ($30 if no food is brought) You are encouraged to bring more food if you can, the Salvation Army won’t tell us no that’s to much)
Holes: At least 2 rounds of 21, possibly 2 rounds of 22 depending on how this weekend’s layout goes.

Please start the signup line out side of the signup room so we can get things setup and in order before we get started We will have a laptop to do scores on this year…so hopefully things will not take as long during lunch and after the 2nd round to get payout figured…YEAH!!! Please support these supporters of the CVDGA anyway you can…they do a lot for local disc golf.

This also means that if you are not pre-registered by Thursday, March 7th by 7:00 pm CST, then you can not register and play this tournament. There are no late registrations and no day of registrations, no exceptions. Another very important date to remember is that if you want a T-shirt in your players pack you have to be pre-registered by 8:00 pm CST by Sunday March 3rd.
I’d also like to point out that if you are from out of town and are planning on staying in a hotel, the Oil Field is going strong here and hotels are getting hard to get. So make reservations early if possible or you may just end up camping after all.
Crush Sponsorship
We should have sponsorship info and packs out next week and we can use all the help we can get gathering sponsors for this year’s event. If you or you know someone that would possibly sponsor please help out if you can. Remember all they can do is tell you no, so it doesn’t hurt to ask. The more sponsors we can get the better the players packs and payout can be!
Next Crush Work Day
I want to thank the 5 people that showed up to this past weekend’s work day. Be sure to thank these people as they are doing a lot of work for the “I only wanna be a player disc golfer”. Coby, Cookie, Jack, Sean and Jason.
The next scheduled work day is set for Feb. 9th. We will be doing work at both South Concho and Middle Concho(the lake) hopefully getting the last of the work that needs to be done for the Crush finished up.
BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED FOR 2014
I am going to put this out there now in hopes that few people will decide between now and then to step up to the plate and help local disc golf continue to grow in this town. There will be at least 2 of the current long time board members that will be taking a break for being so involved in the CVDGA. That’s not to say they won’t be around to help when help is needed, but in order for the club to continue functioning we will need some new blood to step up to the plate. Thanks!

Well I was waiting to send out the weekly update today because we were suppose to have a board meeting last night to get more details lined out for the Crush….well that got cancelled and rescheduled for next week so here we are a day late. We have weekend minis on the schedule this week only. We have a work day scheduled for the lake this weekend. The Ice Bowl is almost here, just a couple of weeks away! Still looking for a few good men or women to run for the CVDGA board for 2013. And online signups have already opened for this year’s Crush.

Lake Course Work Day
The course maintenance man has set the work day for a little later start than normal this week. We are meeting at 12:30 to get things going this week. We’ve got teeboxes to move, a few trash cans to empty, some posts to replace, some pin placements to locate and determine which need to get fixed, and 18’s bench needs to be pulled, fixed and replanted next to the new tree that is growing in it’s old place. Tools needed would be pix-axe, sledge hammer, sharp shooter, PHDs, gloves, trash bags.
The next word day will be determined after we see how much we get done and how much needs to be done at S.C.
Eola’s “2 disc and a mini challenge” Ice Bowl
As most know this is a charity event put on by the CVDGA, Cortese Flag, and Bright Brewing to help support the local Salvation Army. This will be our 4th year doing it for the Salvation Army and hope it turns out to be our biggest donation year. So be sure to bring at least the 3 cans of food and more if you can. These people are the ones that directly help those in need in our community. So let’s do all we can!!!
As it’s been for the past few years it will again be a 2 disc challenge, but this year you will also be required to have a mini. As it was last year we will be doing the lost disc on the roof rule. If you don’t remember it’s pretty simple, if you throw a disc on the roof you have lost it for the day, if you throw both on the roof you are done for the day. Mark has spent a lot of time and money on his roof over the past few years and is currently doing more roof work and doesn’t need a bunch of disc golfers climbing up there denting and possibly damaging anything. So please be respectful of his wishes.

Holes: 2 rounds of what may end up being 12 holes (including one mini hole)
Shirts and minis will be given to the first 50 players signed up!

The deadline to announce that you would like to run for a 2013 Board Member spot is this Saturday. So if you feel like it’s your time to help run the club be sure to post your intentions before them at this link.

We’ll probably be moving teeboxes, checking and fixing all pin locations, emptying any full trash cans as well as picking up trash, and any other stuff that may need to be done.

This year’s Ice Bowl is slowly getting closer and closer. Spread the word of the fun that is to be had at this annual disc golf party! January 26th, 2013
As usual it will be day of signups only starting at about 9:15ish. For those that like to get in line early we’ll do signups in the same room as always. (start it at the door please)
Cost to play will be $15 plus 3 cans of food, but of course you are welcome to bring more if you would like (if no food is brought it will be $30). All food and money will be donated to the Salvation Army.
This year we will be adding a mini hole to the course. I also have another idea for a hole that I am hoping is going to work out…more details once I know it will.
We’ll once again do player packs to the first 50 signed up.
Oh and the lost disc on the roof rule will be in effect this year once again. So try not to throw them up there!

Well it’s weekly update day again, a little later than normal, but at least it’s getting out there. I want to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year this week since I will probably not get around to sending out a weekly update next week. If you are traveling be safe! This week we have a full mini schedule. We’re still asking for volunteers for the 2013 CVDGA board. We have our first work day for the Crush scheduled for the first part of next month. The Ice Bowl is getting closer and closer. And even though it seems like a long way off we are recommending that you book your hotel rooms early for the Crush this year as the Oil Boom in San Angelo is making hotel rooms harder to find.

11th Annual Crush on the Concho
So the date for this year’s Crush on the Concho is set for March 9th & 10th.
But more importantly is getting your reservations for hotels made EARLY! In case you haven’t heard San Angelo is booming with oil productions right now and apparently another source was found recently and they are expecting even more oil workers in the area over the next several months. So if you plan to stay in a hotel make your reservations early as it’s better to cancel them later than not being able to make them at all.
