2/13/2013

Well the weekly update day has come and gone…which means I am a day late getting this out this week. I’ve got a really busy week going on here at work so this week’s update is going to be a little on the short side. We’ve got weekend minis set for the week, but not Wednesday mini. The Junction Freezer is next weekend. Crush signups are starting to roll in…are you signed up yet? But the main thing for this week is Crush on the Concho Sponsorships are needed, and we need your help in gathering them!!!

MINIS

No Wednesday mini this week. But we are in the last month of the winter mini schedule so starting March we’ll go back to every Wednesday
Saturday’s mini is set for random doubles at North Concho with a 10am teetime.
Sunday we’ll stick to skins through the month, 2pm teetime.

Crush Sponsorships Help

**IMPORTANT**The Crush is coming and we are once again looking for sponsors for the event. There are several different levels of sponsorship ranging from as little as $50 up to as much as $500. The different levels offer different levels of exposure from a logo on the 150ish shirts printed to individual hole signs, to Sole Friday doubles sponsors and promotional banners at HQ. If you, or you know someone that might like to help the local disc golf scene by sponsoring the biggest event in West Texas please help anyway you can. We have sponsorship packages available that we can email you if you would like them to help. You can let either myself or the TD Jeanne Moore know you would like one.

Deadlines to keep in mind:
February 15th is the deadline to get into the players book
March 1st is the deadline to get on the T-shirt.

4th Annual Junction Freezer

February 23rd at the Junction Course
Entry: $25

This will be 1 rounds of singles, then the 2nd round will be semi-random doubles….meaning you will be paired up according to your score.

1st Place trophies to each division.

In the past, this tournament raised funds for the Meals on Wheels program in Junction. This year it is going to be for one family that has ran into bad times and could use our help. Anything that we can donate to raffle and/or ctp would greatly be appreciated.

2013 CVDGA Memberships

Well the Ice Bowl has come and gone which means it is now time to renew your club memberships for the 2013 year. Memberships are only $10 this year and will go a long ways to help out local disc golf. If you would like to become a member all you have to do is either swing by Cortese Flag & Silkscreen fill out a membership form and pay the $10. If you can not or do not want to come by the shop I can always bring out the stuff to any mini I am attending. Just let me know. Right now I think we are at 21 members…we hit 60 last year so let’s see if we can do it again!

Also if you are signing up for the PDGA this year you can sign up under the Club Affiliation page. This saves you $5 off your 2013 PDGA Memberships.
More info can be found here - http://conchovalleydiscgolf.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?10173
The PDGA page to use this benefit is - http://www.pdgastore.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=011&PROD=1228369190

That should get us through this week…we’ll see you at the park!

2/5/2013

Weekly update day of the week is here and there are several things to go over this week. First and for most…the Abilene Ice Cup is this weekend at Cal Young. While I am not able to attend, I would love to hear that a TON OF CVDGAer’s made the trip up to support this event!!! We have a full mini schedule again this week. Crush sponsorships are still needed and the first deadline is quickly approaching for certain “perks” you get for sponsoring. So please help the Club and try as hard as you can to find a couple of sponsors. For those signing up for the PDGA this year don’t forget the CVDGA is an affiliated club! This means if you are a club member you can sign up under the PGGA Affiliation Program and save a little money. It is also time to get those CVDGA Membership renewed for 2013. There is also a work day this weekend at both the lake and hopefully South Concho. Then later this month there is the 4th Annual Junction Freezer.

2013 CVDGA Board Members

I want to thank these people for stepping up and being Board Members for the Club in 2013. I also wanted everyone to know who they should contact if they have an issue, suggestion, or just want to thank some people for helping disc golf in San Angelo.

President – Coby Elliott
V.P. – Denise Elliott
Secretary – Patty
Treasurer – Jeanne Moore
Webmaster – Gary Waller

1/29/2013

Well hopefully everyone is recovered from the Ice Bowl Party Saturday and is ready for this week’s update. This week in local disc golf we have a full mini schedule. Abilene’s Ice Cup is next weekend. Junction’s Freezer is at the end of next month. Then before you know it…it will be Crush on the Concho time! Speaking of the Crush we are in need of help with gathering Sponsorships, if you are you know someone that might be interested hit them up….all they can do is say no. There is more info on that below. But before we get there we also have a work days scheduled to put in some work on the courses. Also if you didn’t do it out in Eola, 2013 CVDGA Memberships are open to renew.

I want to thank everyone for making the 6th Annual Eola “2 Disc and a mini” Ice Bowl a success again this year. Really want to thank the ones that came in from out-of-town: Abilene, Mertzon, Big Spring, Junction, Waco and anywhere else you might have come from…While I still haven’t actually done a count I think you might have out numbered the locals this weekend. So I want to make a point to Thank You guys for the support you show! That doesn’t in anyway mean I do not appreciate the locals that came out to support the event as well, Thank you guys as well. While turnout was a little lower than last year we still had 64 players attend the Party! We were able to raise $500+ dollars and several boxes of food for the Salvation Army this weekend. Plus I hope everyone had a great time out in Eola and is already looking forward to coming back next year! Thanks to Mark for letting us crash Bright Brewing once again, Cortese Flag for doing T-shirts on the cheap, The CVDGA for giving out minis. And thanks to all those that helped me either get the course together, do signups, and count scores during the day. I think for the most part this year’s Ice Bowl might have been the smoothest so far.

MINIS

5th Wednesday of the month is here once again…which means it’s GET RIPT WEDNESDAY at North Concho. 6pm teetime

Saturday will be handicapped singles also at North Concho. 10am teetime for this one.

Sunday is the weekly skins game at the lake…2pm teetime for this one. (Football season is over this weekend so we are almost done with skins for the season)

For the work day Feb 9th we will be doing some painting, replacing TBox markers, moving some baskets, light welding and all that good stuff. If you can make it to S Concho and don't mind a little bit of yard work then this is your cup of tea! We have some light clean up to do and might need to move a TBox or 2. Email or post online what you can do to help out please!
Thanks in advance for showing up,

1/22/2013

Tuesday once again…and that means weekly update day of the week is here. It is ICE BOWL week, anyone else excited??? I know I am, I really love this tourney! For those that don’t know the 6th Annual Eola “2 disc and a mini” Challenge is this Saturday. We will also be doing our membership drive this Saturday at Eola. Patty will be manning that station in the signup room. With the tourney happening Saturday and no Wednesday mini scheduled we only have the weekly skins match as far as minis go. Abilene’s Ice Cup is just a few weeks away, then a few weeks after that will be Junction’s 4th Annual Ice Freezer. Once we get through that it will be Crush on the Concho time…btw signups are open for that now!

MINIS

No Wednesday or Saturday mini this week. But we’ll make up for it next week with GET RIPT WEDNESDAY at North Concho!!!!
Sunday’s weekly Skins Match at the lake is set for 2pm Sunday.

6th Annual Eola “2 disc and a mini” Challenge

Date: Jan. 26th
Signups: 9:15ish

2 Divisions – Mens and Womens

Rounds 2 rounds of 24(12 hole course this year)
Tee off: 10am or whenever signups are done.
Entry $15 plus 3 cans of food….if no food is brought it’s $30!

More food is welcome if you want to donate more!
Charity: Salvation Army
Ace Pot $5

T-shirts and mini sets to the first 50 players signed up!

This year we are adding 2 new holes to the course. One requires you to have a mini (NO METAL MINIS PLEASE!) and will be down the hallway of the building. The other will be an island hole with 3 different islands to land on…with the basket being on the furthest island away from the tee. If you miss landing in one of the islands there will be a drop zone(the closest island to the tee) to re-tee form. Once at the drop zone you will re-tee until you land in one of the islands. Flying over does not count as in…you must land and come to a stop in it or you are OB.

As most know this is a 2 disc challenge. You start and finish with the same 2 discs….no exceptions. The “lost disc on the roof” rule will be in effect once again this year. If you throw your disc on the roof you have lost it for the day, if you throw both on the roof you are banished to the bar for the rest of the day. Either Mark or I will get up on the roof to retrieve discs at the end of the day to return them. Please respect Mark and stay off the roof.

If you plan to eat inside with Mark, please get in and place your order as soon as you are done with your round. He is going to have a signup sheet on the bar so he knows who ordered and in what order they ordered.

Please thank and support your sponsors anyway you can. Eola’s Bright Brewing, the CVDGA, and Cortese Flag & Silkscreen. Also thanks to Rick Rothstein, the creator/instigator of the Ice Bowl, for allowing me to print our own version of shirts for the event using the trademarked Ice Bowl name and logo.

Other than that bring as many friends as you can with as much food as you can and let’s have a blast in Eola, Texas!!!!

Abilene’s Ice Cup

Abilene’s is holding their version of an Ice Bowl Feb. 9th at Cal Young.

Entry: $25

Unlimited Mulligan’s can be purchased to help raise more money for their charity.

11th Annual Crush on the Concho

Here is the latest from the TD:

Registrations are now open for the Crush through Disc Golf United or you can just click on this link http://www.discgolfunited.com/disc-golf-tournaments/tournament-dashboard.cfm/tourn_id/607

Some things to know is that this is an Online Registration only, Pre-Registration only tournament. This means you can only register for this tournament through Disc Golf United and no other way. This also means that if you are not pre-registered by Thursday, March 7th by 7:00 pm CST, then you can not register and play this tournament. There are no late registrations and no day of registrations, no exceptions. Another very important date to remember is that if you want a T-shirt in your players pack you have to be pre-registered by 8:00 pm CST by Sunday March 3rd.

This year we are offering a new division and that will be Women's Advanced Masters. As all sanctioned events there must be 3 players signed up in order for any division to make. Another thing we will do differently this year for time issues is the Pool that is starting at South Concho will be having their players meeting there with the Assistant TD. All players will still need to come to Middle Concho (Lake Course) on Sat morning from 8-8:45 to check in and get their pool assignment. We are in hopes this will help out greatly with our time issue so that those that have to play South Concho for the second round on Sat are not playing in the dark as they were last year. We will post more information as time gets closer, but it anyone has any questions, please feel free to post them here or you can contact Jeanne Moore at wake_n_jeanne©yahoo.com

I’d also like to point out that if you are from out of town and are planning on staying in a hotel, the Oil Field is going strong here and hotels are getting hard to get. So make reservations early if possible or you may just end up camping after all.

Crush Sponsorship

Sponsorship packs are available for those that want or need them. We need as much help as we can to get as many sponsors as possible. The more sponsors the bigger payout can be! So please ask anyone you think might sponsor…all they can do is say no! If you would like a sponsorship pack please let me or Jeanne know and we can email it to you.

Next Crush Work Day

The next scheduled work day is set for Feb. 9th. We will be doing work at both South Concho and Middle Concho(the lake) hopefully getting the last of the work that needs to be done for the Crush finished up.

That will cover us for this week…we’ll see you in Eola!

1-16-2013

Ok so I am once again a day late in getting out this week’s update. I apologize, but things are just really busy at work and this is when I could get to it. As for the this week in DG – we have a full mini schedule this week. The Ice Bowl is just a week and a half away in Eola. And the Crush is the main topic at board meetings these days so it must be creeping up on us as well. Other than an Ice Bowl type event in Junction next month there is still not a lot of area disc golf on the radar. We finally had 1 new person (THANK YOU DENISE) step up to fill the last open board position of 2013, so we will now once again have a full board to depend on this year….but the time is coming (about this time next year) where some new blood is going to have to step up or things will drastically change with disc golf here in San Angelo.

This is the last week I am going to ask for people to let me know you want to keep receiving the weekly updates. If I don’t get a reply by this time next week I’ll take it that you either don’t read them or don’t want to get it any longer. But if you do want to keep getting it all you have to do is hit the reply button and say something like “keep it coming”. Thanks!

MINIS

Wednesday is set for random doubles at Picnic bend. 6pm teetime….dress warm and/or bring the right beverage to keep you warm cause it’s sure to be a cold night on the course!
Saturday’s mini will be at random doubles at North Concho. 10am teetime
Sunday is the weekly skins match at the lake. 2pm teetime.

Eola “2 disc and a mini challenge” Ice Bowl

Jan. 26th is the date

9:15ish is the signup time.

(please be aware you can signup for someone else, but that person will not receive a players pack….that makes it unfair to those that did stand in line hoping to be one of the first 50.)

Cost is $15 plus 3 cans of food ($30 if no food is brought) You are encouraged to bring more food if you can, the Salvation Army won’t tell us no that’s to much)

Holes: At least 2 rounds of 21, possibly 2 rounds of 22 depending on how this weekend’s layout goes.

$5 ace pot

2 Divisions – Mens and Womens

Please start the signup line out side of the signup room so we can get things setup and in order before we get started
We will have a laptop to do scores on this year…so hopefully things will not take as long during lunch and after the 2nd round to get payout figured…YEAH!!!
I want to thank both Mark at Bright Brewing and Cortese Flag & Silkscreen for the support shown to this event. Please support these supporters of the CVDGA anyway you can…they do a lot for local disc golf.

Hope to see a lot of familiar faces in Eola next weekend!!!!

11th Annual Crush on the Concho

Crush Sponsorship

We should have sponsorship info and packs out next week and we can use all the help we can get gathering sponsors for this year’s event. If you or you know someone that would possibly sponsor please help out if you can. Remember all they can do is tell you no, so it doesn’t hurt to ask. The more sponsors we can get the better the players packs and payout can be!

Next Crush Work Day

I want to thank the 5 people that showed up to this past weekend’s work day. Be sure to thank these people as they are doing a lot of work for the “I only wanna be a player disc golfer”. Coby, Cookie, Jack, Sean and Jason.

The next scheduled work day is set for Feb. 9th. We will be doing work at both South Concho and Middle Concho(the lake) hopefully getting the last of the work that needs to be done for the Crush finished up.

BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED FOR 2014

I am going to put this out there now in hopes that few people will decide between now and then to step up to the plate and help local disc golf continue to grow in this town. There will be at least 2 of the current long time board members that will be taking a break for being so involved in the CVDGA. That’s not to say they won’t be around to help when help is needed, but in order for the club to continue functioning we will need some new blood to step up to the plate. Thanks!

Think that should cover us for this week….we’ll see you at the course!
