2-7-12

Weekly update time of the week is here! This week we only have minis set for the weekend, but we also have a work day set for the Lake this weekend. The 2nd Annual Abilene Ice Cup is coming up next weekend, and then the Junction Ice Bowl will follow a couple of weeks later.

For those who haven’t seen or heard about the progress made at North Concho this weekend I have attached a picture of the work that was done to hole 8 (the island hole). Want to thanks the City as well as Sean for getting those rocks for us and the equipment used to place them. Big thanks to Jonathan B. for all the help he has been with this project as well. Thanks to Pete for the trash cans. And thanks to everyone else that came out and helped this past Saturday. Think things are really looking good at North Concho these days.

MINIS

No Wednesday mini this week.

Saturday’s S.C. mini is set for handicapped singles at 10am. I won’t be able to make it, so if anyone does go please remember to take the handicaps.

With football season over and the Superbowl finished, it’s time to start the Sunday mini rotation back up. So since it’s singles at S.C. this weekend that means random doubles at the lake. Ace pot will go back to the lake ace pot that has been running for a couple of years now.

Teetime is 2pm!

Crush Work Day

The first of the two scheduled work days for the Crush is set for Feb. 11th starting at 9am. The normal stuff will need to be done, picking up and emptying trash cans, putting in new trash bags, moving or repairing teeboxes, replacing tee-maker posts, fixing any messed up sleeves, repainting anything that needs it, and doing any other work that needs to be done. There will also be some clean up at South Concho’s hole 14, and possible hole 4. Other than that I think S.C. is in good shape.

The second work day for the Crush is set for Feb. 25th if needed

LOST And FOUND

I have someone’s eye glasses from this weekend. So if you are missing yours…these may just be them. They are here at the shop, or I can bring them to the mini tomorrow.

I also had a 2009 plastic CVDGA bag tag returned to the shop. If you think it might be yours all you have to do is tell me the number on the tag and you can come by the shop and get it or I can bring it to the mini tomorrow.

I have several discs from the Ice bowl here at the shop. If you lost one check the Ice bowl thread on the CVDGA website to see if yours is listed!

1-31-2012

Tuesday is here and I am on time with the weekly update this week!!! This week in local disc golf we have a full mini schedule. The Abilene Ice Cup is the next tourney on the radar, followed by the Junction Ice Bowl at the end of the month. We also have 1 for sure work day for the Crush scheduled as well as a backup workday scheduled if we don’t get everything done on the first one.

I want to thank everyone that came out and supported the cause at this past weekend’s Eola Ice Bowl. I hope that everyone really enjoyed themselves…I know I did. I do apologize for it running later than expected…just wasn’t prepared for the 83 PEOPLE we had show up, but we are already thinking of ways to make it finish up a little earlier next year. As well as possibly add a couple more holes to spread us out a little bit more. We’ve got a year to figure it out, so start spreading the word and let’s see if we can get over 90 next year! The CVDGA was able to donate $581 and around 400lbs of food to the Salvation Army yesterday…and let me tell you when we showed up to drop it off you could see the appreciation on their face! So once again thanks to everyone that showed up and thanks to our sponsors Bright Brewing and Cortese Flag & Silkscreen.

2012 CVDGA Board Members

The new board has been “elected” and have now taken over as of Monday. Here are those that were willing to step up and help the cause.

President: Coby

Vice President: Muph

Secretary: Patty

Treasurer: Jeanne

Course Maintenance: Cookie

Webmaster: Gary Waller

Membership Director: Jason

We are now up to 37 CVDGA members after this weekends membership drive…thanks to all those that signed up and are supporting the CVDGA! If you haven’t re-upped your membership it’s never to late. You can take care of that at Cortese Flag, or if you can’t get by here just let me know and I can bring out the stuff to any mini I am attending.

MINIS

Wednesday’s mini is set for some nightglow doubles at Brentwood Park. Teetime is 6pm.

Saturday is also random doubles at South Concho Park with a teetime of 10am.

Sunday is the last skins match of the year at the lake starting at 2pm. With it being Superbowl Sunday this week: we’ll go back to a rotation between singles and doubles starting next week.

Abilene Ice Cup

The 2nd Annual Abilene Ice Cup is set for Feb. 18th at Cal Young Park.

I have requested some more info to provide…so hopefully I’ll have that for next week’s update. All I know is these guys shows some tremendous support to our Ice Bowl so let’s try and return the favor if possible.

Junction Ice Bowl

1-25-12

Weekly update time of the week a day late….The big thing happening this week is the 5th Annual “2 Disc Challenge” Ice Bowl in Eola. This is our big membership drive, it’s where 2012 board members take office, it’s where everyone that shows up has an absolute blast…and to top it off it’s where the CVDGA and it’s members help the community with the food drive that is the Ice Bowl. Plus it’s one of my favorite CVDGA tourneys! Hope to see a LARGE crowd out for it. Other DG things happening is Crush info has been released and online registration has opened! Work days for the Crush have been announced. There is no Wednesday mini this week, and I doubt the Saturday S.C. mini makes, so that leave the skins match as the lone mini this week. On the area news front the ADGA Ice Cup is coming up in the next few weeks.

Last chance for those that have not replied to the “keep it coming” request. If you have not replied and still want the weekly update emailed to you please let me know by replying to this email with “keep it coming”. Otherwise your only other chance is to check the yes on the membership form at the ice bowl this weekend. If you do neither I’ll take it you do not want to receive the weekly update any more and delete you from the list.

MINIS

No Wednesday mini this week

Saturday’s mini is unlikely to make, but is not called off.

Sunday’s Skins match will tee off at 2pm. at the Lake. 25 cents a hole!

5th Annual Eola “2 Disc Challenge” Ice Bowl

Signups: 9:15ish

Teetime 10:00ish

Entry: $15 plus 3 cans of food (if no food entry is $35)

Rounds: 2 rounds of 10 in the morning, 2 rounds of backwards 10 in the afternoon.

Player packs to the first 50 signed up….You must be present to sign up!

The idea…to raise as much food and money possible for the Salvation Army, and have the best possible time doing so. In case this is going to be your 1st Ice Bowl: You are allowed to use 2 discs and only those 2 discs all day. No changing discs at any point so be sure to start with the ones you want to finish with.

*****There will be a new rule in effect this year. Mark has done a lot of work on the roof out there and does not want ANYONE on the roof. So in an effort to keep people off the new rule will be: If you throw one of your discs on the roof you have lost it for the day. If you throw both on the roof….you are done for the day! Mark will go up after the rounds are over and get anyone’s disc off, but if you are caught getting your own down you will not only be DQed, but you will no longer be invited back to this event. *****

Signups will be in the “Sun Room” across the hall from the bar. Normally the line for signups starts well before I actually get in there to start signups. So if you want to ensure yourself a player pack(and the right size shirt) and see a line forming get in it early!! Please start the line at the double doors.

On a side note, I was out there this past weekend flagging everything off and let me tell you Mark has some REALLY good beers on tap right now. The pale ale is a light and easy drinking beer and the Chocoalte Stout is also a really good one right now. Just a tip…mixing them together is also really good, just ask for the 60-40 split (choco to light)

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

This weekend is also the CVDGA’s Membership drive. If you have not re-upped your CVDGA Membership for 2012 this is the easiest time to do so. Someone will be at a station after the tourney registration desk to get you signed up. This year there are 2 options for membership: If you already have your leather bag tag from last year your membership will cost $10, if you do not have a leather tag and would like one your membership will cost $17. This also gets you your 2012 CVDGA Members sticker as well as gets you 10% off all you disc golf purchases at Cortese.

So please show your support to the CVDGA and join the club!

2012 CVDGA Board Members

Once again this year there are no contested positions for the board, but luckily we do have someone “running” for each position. So if you see any of these people this weekend be sure to tell them THANKS for being willing to step up and help the club in 2012.

Update 1-3-12

It’s time for the 1st weekly update of the New Year. With the new year we’ve got several things to go over as far as CVDGA memberships as well as the CVDGA Board. We’ve got our first scheduled mini of the year Wednesday as well as a full weekend mini schedule. So far the only tourney on the radar is this year’s Ice Bowl, but I’m sure more will be popping up over the next few weeks. Also the 2012 Texas Disc Golf schedule has been released so everyone can start checking out the tourneys they hope to make throughout the new year.

MINIS

1st CVDGA mini of the New Year will be at Brentwood Park, as always teetime is 6pm.

Saturday’s S.C. mini will be random doubles at 10am.

Sunday will be skins at the lake. With football playoffs upon us, skins will be coming to an end soon and the Sunday mini will go back to a singles, doubles rotation….so get those skins matches in while you can.

2012 CVDGA Memberships are now open for registration. There are 3 main ways to get signed up: 1) Swing by Cortese Flag to get signed up, 2) Let me know you would like me to bring out the membership form and membership sticker to any mini I am attending, or 3) wait till the Ice Bowl and take care of it there. Cash or check only please…no debit or credit cards.

2) If you didn’t get a leather tag and want one your membership will be $17

2012 CVDGA Board Members

The club is still in need of a few good people who are willing to step up and help run the club this year. As it sits right now there are no contested spots, and there is 2 or 3 positions that need someone to fill them as there are a couple of board members that are not re-running.

If you feel it’s your time to step up and help the club please post your intentions on this thread:

The CVDGA has once again signed up for the PDGA Affiliation program. 2012 Tourney Schedule

Here is a link I found with all the Texas Tourneys that have been listed so far, and I’d imagine more will be listed as they get approved through the new state coordinator.

Now it will be easier for you to map out your 2012 tourney schedule.
http://www.texasdiscgolfschedule.com/

North Concho Park

The CVDGA will be starting the installation of our 6th Disc Golf course in town this weekend. If you want to help with the installation of the course you must come by Cortese Flag and fill out a work release form by Thursday afternoon. That way I, as the adopt-a-spot coordinator, can turn them in Friday and we can be cleared to do work in the park. AGAIN ANYONE THAT DOES NOT FILL THIS OUT PRIOR TO FRIDAY CAN NOT WORK ON THE COURSE SATURDAY! This is per City requirements under the adopt-a-spot program, no exceptions can or will be made.

Update 12-29-11

Well I am running a little behind on this weeks update, but wanted to make sure and get it out as there are a few tourneys that have popped up over the last few days. Plus we only have the weekend minis happening this week, but wanted to make sure everyone knew what was going on there. Other than that a new year starts next week, which means it time to start taking 2012 CVDGA membership signups. Plus we are still looking for a few people who are willing to run for this year’s CVDGA Board of Directors. Is this the year it’s your turn to help run the club? I also want to wish everyone a SAFE and HAPPY New Years weekend, and hope that everyone has a great 2012!

MINIS

Saturday’s S.C. mini will be handicapped singles starting at 10am. I will not be able to attend this weekend’s mini so be sure if you go have a smart phone to look up handicaps, or print them out off the mini page on the CVDGA site.

Sunday’s skins match will be the 1st CVDGA round of the new year with a teetime of 2pm. As always holes are 25 cents each except for 9 & 18 with are 50 cents. There is also an optional $2 ace pot that is throw off for after the round if no aces are hit.

Abilene Membership Bag Tag Tourney

Here is the info that was emailed to me, I’m just going to copy and paste it as there is a lot of info:

”New Years day we will have our club appreciation event. 1 round at cal young. Flex start from 10am to 1pm. entry fee is your bag tag. Payout and awards will be given out after the last card has come in. many ctps and discs for every division. ACE POT is optional. Also we will be handing out a questionnaire please fill it out and return it before you tee off. Remember this is free to club members if u have a current adga bag tag if you don't there are some still available at our weekend minis or at this event.”

Lamesa Disc Golf

That’s right Lamesa is now on the Disc Golf scene!!! Patrick Kitten is running the tourney, there is a facebook page for Lamesa Tx Disc Golf…so if you need more info that I have might check that out. Here is the info pulled off of that site, there is also a map of the course there as well..

· “It's on. Lamesa will be hosting a DISC GOLF TOURNEY! The event will take place at the newly installed course (this week) at Forrest Park in Lamesa. This is a one day event on Saturday December 31st - registration is from 8:30 - 9:30, then players meeting, then Round 1 (all from the red tees), then a lunch break, then Round 2. There will NOT be a final nine (or three). Entry is $10 for all players with $1 going to the ace pot (will throw off after Round 2 if not hit). We will have a CTB's (Hole 18 on Round 1 and Hole 17 on Round 2). We should be done early enough to make the New Year's celebration parties.”

2012 Membership Renewal/Signups

The New Year is upon us, and that means it’s time to renew or signup for your 2012 CVDGA membership. This year there will be an option to the cost of memberships. If you already have a leather CVDGA Bag Tag or if you just don’t want a bag tag cost for this year’s membership will be $10. If you would like to purchase one of these leather tags the cost for your membership will be $17.

You can signup at Cortese Flag, or if you can’t make it by here let me know and I can bring the stuff out to any mini that I will be attending…which is most of them! Or you can always wait till the Ice Bowl at the end of the month to signup then. Whatever works better for you, I’m pretty sure we can accommodate you.

2012 CVDGA Board

We are currently looking for disc golfers that want to help make a difference in local disc golf in 2012 by becoming a CVDGA Board Member. There are some positions completely open right now as a couple of last year’s Board members are not re-running. Or if you feel you would rather run for one of the positions that someone else is running for that is great as well as it’s been several years since we’ve had any contested positions. If you want more information about what it takes to be a Board Member, or if you want to put your name in the hat….go to this link and post your questions or your intentions on what you would like to run for.
http://www.conchovalleydiscgolf.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?10172
