So I just got an email from John Houck saying they've squeezed in a few more teams. Total count of this year's event is now 456 players, 40 established teams, and 16 merged teams!!!!
I also noticed there is another CVDGA team on the list bringing our total up to 1 estblished and 4 merged teams!!!
Here is a list of the teams and captains: Warlocks - Jason CVDGA - Mikey All Chicks - Denise ThrowHard - Coby LowPutt - Justy
Plus there is 4 other West Texas Teams: Abilene(est), Odessa(mer), and 2 Lubbock(mer) teams.
You Warlocks that have been going since 2006 remember the years of us being the only W.T. team there? Now from the looks of it there is 60 west Texas disc golfers attending this year
I'm curious what the final rosters look like for these teams.
Our Roster is: Pro1 Patty Pro2 Johnny OPM Frankie Adv1 Micah Adv2 Brandn Awm Jeanne Int1 Sean Int2 Jason Swing Jr
We're a little over 2 weeks out on this...I can not wait!!! I've started printing the Warlock teams shirts and the fronts look pretty cool!
Well another Texas Teams has come and gone, kind of makes me a little sad and happy at the same time to know it's over, but that the next on is only a year away! And I'll just put this out there now...the Warlocks WILL BE THERE! as long at they have it!
Wanna say thanks to all my teammates, hope you guys had as good of a time as I did!! Even though we didn't make it to our goal of the round of 16...we were only 3 strokes off!!!! I also hope all of you want back on the team next year, cause I've got no changes in mind. I think we have a great group that all really get along well. Other than the year we won, I think this one is my favorite Teams to date....but there is always next year to top it!
I think camping this year was great, and I hope at least our team can do it again next year...and maybe get the rest of the San Angelo teams to all camp together!
Congrats to the 2 "new guys" on the team(Micah and Junior)...both went undefeated in round robin play! Also congrats to Patty(or should I say Nick as John H calls you) for not only winning a match in Pro1, but also hitting an Ace during play! That is pretty awsome and a pretty darn good way to win a hole!
Congrats to the 2 6-man teams that made it to the elite 8 in the merged division - ThrowHard Retards and Team Low Putt. Haven't heard how far Team LowPutt went...anyone know?
Also congrats to the All Chicks No Sticks women team for winning the team spirit award!
Hope to see another 5 San Angelo teams again next year!
Come on next friday before Thanksgiving at 11:30...Red Beer here come the Warlocks!
Texas Teams lived up to its billing, and then some! Fantastic courses, great atmosphere, meeting and talking with players all over the state…just a few of the things that made Texas teams awesome. John, Dee, and the few others that made that happen need to be thanked a thousand times…not many realize just how much of an ENORMOUS undertaking that was. The temp holes speak to this. None of the temp holes were added only to accommodate more people. They were thought out and challenging and required a lot of work to clear out. It would have been real easy to just throw a bunch of baskets in open spaces and call it good, and trying to add 27 extra holes few would fault them for that. Kudos to them for not giving in.
Congrats to all the San Angelo teams! We were hoping that Abilene and the Warlocks would get to compete against each other at some point, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be this year. 2 of the 8 merged finalists were SA teams…..very cool! (both got knocked out in the round of 8 in case anyone still hadn’t heard yet). All chicks No sticks was by far my favorite team name this year….way to represent and a well deserved spirit award.
As far as Abilene, well we certainly did better than expected. We were kind of looking forward to playing Brady on the way home…but “fortunately” we had to play too long at Circle R. Really all West Texas teams should be proud. Lubbock and Abilene both get to the round of 8 (Crowley beat Lubbock by 1 in a tiebreaker and Circle C beat Abilene), 2 San Angelo Merged teams made it to the round of 8, the Warlocks are 3 points away from getting to the round of 16, SA formed and made up most of the first and only all womens team, Big Spring represented well… A great showing for west texas disc golf!
As for the all women team, I wish the CVDGA could take 1st billing on that, but some ladies there were trying to protest the current system (they wanted more women's spots on the 9 man teams) back in (I think) 2006 got an all ladies team together and were in our merged division pool....I remember, because all of us won except for our top Advanced player at the time....Nick! :P
Anyway, glad to hear you liked the course...and now you see why I tried pushing you guys to get a team for the last few years. Teams is the best tourney ever not matter how good or bad you do!!!!
1st.Congrats to all who went to Texas Teams for just being apart of something of that magnitude is worth it to me. 2nd.Congrats to all that made it to the round of 8, a great accomplishment with that many good discgolfers. 3rd.Thanks to all the Warlocks and team THC for making camp such an awesome experience...deep fried oreo's! 4th.Thank you Jason for getting us organized, registered, and making once again, some bada$$ shirts for us. It's only been 2 days, and I can't wait til next year!!!
I think I should learn alot more before next year. Had a great time other than the reason for delay of play on Saturday before 3rd round. Will be challenging to find 6 total Women again for next year but I am determined to bug the $#!+ outta ya. And next time not so much beer & wood.
Actually Denise, I think you and Coby should put together the CVDGA's second 9 man team next year. You've already got 3 of the hard spots to fill on the disc heads in the Am women(you), ProMaster(Dave), and Swing/Adv Master(Coby). Now I know Dave and Coby aren't actual Pro and Advance Master players, but they can be by next year! Or I've got some other ideas about at least 1(maybe even 2) of those spots as well as some of the other spots I'll talk to Coby about it when I see him next. The Pro spots would probably be hardest to fill.
Well I had a great time! I was super stoked to beat the intermediate 1 guy from Brazo's (I think)? Anyway, the girls didn't get a big goose egg and the teams totally loved out "name". Not sure I'll be around for next year, but if so, I'd certainly like to help the CVDGA
