I got to play 2 new courses this weekend while down at the boat races in Marble Falls. So I thought I'd start a thread for people to post info about new courses they play while out and about....

First course I played this weekend was the new 9 holer in Marble Falls. It's a Houch designed course. The first 5 or 6 holes were fairly tight, with hole 1 having a really cool tree to throw up next to. Some elevation change, and a nice tree canopy. A few holes are cut where you have 1 line to follow. Some have 2 lines and nothing else. Holes 7, 8, and 9 open up pretty good with 2 of them being over 500' from the pro tees. Which is what we played from both times. The shorter tees looked much easier than the longer ones. If it has rained any time recently I'm sure the creek would have been full of water, which means water would come into play on several holes...as it was it really only came into play on 1, maybe 2 holes. Well worth playing if you are in Marble Falls or the area and are looking for something new to play. http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3603&mode=ci

Yesterday we woke up and headed to the new course in Bee Cave(south Austin) which is on the Austin Ridge Bible Church property. As we drive up the drive way I started thinking we might be playing a ski resort course withouth the ski lift. Once we got way in the course....I realized I was right!!!!! I promise you when you get to the top of hole A you are on one of the highest points in Austin! The course starts off with a blind shot, and seems like that continued for all but 3 or 4 of the 16 holes we got to play(the course is a 20 hole course, but there is some construction that takes out 4 of them…and honestly we didn’t miss not getting to play them by the time we were done!!!!!). The first hole was only 260 or so, which was to tough other than the creek that is like 3 feet away from the basket and the basket is about 6’ down hill at the end of the throw….so yeah OB on the first hole. This course made Manor look wide open. After the first 5 holes, I promise the beginner would want to quit so they threw in 3 or 4 really short holes….one being like 130 feet. But still very tight throws are required. There were several long shots threw some windy stuff, some with really no lines to the basket so you are left playing “plinko” all the way to the basket. A thumber would be a huge help on this course as you could get over the tree tops on some of the throws….since I don’t have one of those any more it was all about trying to play fairway golf, but with no fairways. I really liked this course a lot, probably one of if not the hardest course I have ever played both on the throws required and the wear on your body in 100 degree temps hiking up and down the hilliest course I think I have played. Would highly recommend playing this one…but I’d wait till October or so to do it again! I took 3 bottles of water thinking that would be plenty, it was gone by hole 14 and you really don’t go by the car to get more along the way. Well maybe once after hole 3. GO PLAY THIS COURSE IF YOU ARE IN SOUTH AUSTIN! http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=3694&mode=ci

Well I got to play the course in Pagosa Spring this weekend. This course is great...if you are ever there make it a point to play it. Ba and myself hit it after the brerwery on Xmas eve. Got about a 1/2 mile walk up the hill to the first teebox(1/2 of that was due to snow on the road up, 1/2 is a walk you have to make all the time). Talk about trees!!! This course has thousands of them! Tighest course I have played outside of the 9 holer at Brushy Creek, and the Spring Vally DG course. Then add in the elevation add ankle to lower calf snow on the ground and WOW what a course!

Hey Jason I need to get with you for some pointers on Brushy Creek. I'm debating hard on playing USWDGC & I heard that is one of the courses for my division. Want to try to play it before I leave TX in a few months.

Have you played the course in ft Stockton? Debating on leaving super early to head back to TX & thought maybe I'd stop & play it if its worth it.....

First off let me say I think you should 100% play USWDGC, I am pretty sure Jeanne is going to it, and and maybe Denise as well. This is one no women in San Angelo..or even Texas should miss!

What other courses will your division play? Reason I ask is there might be other courses that would be better to play before hand than Brushy. Like if you are playing Wilco!

Anyway, as for Brushy Creek, there are 2 Brushy courses, one is the "sports park" http://www.pdga.com/course_directory/course/brushy-creek-sports-park-dgc and is 9 holes, and one is the "mud" course and is 18. http://www.pdga.com/course_directory/course/brushy-creek-dgc I have played both, and I would guess that you are playing the 18 hole one. The 9 holer is the one I played a few weeks ago and is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more difficult than the 18 hole one. The 18 hole one is actually one of Jeanne's favorite courses and is a fun one to play! The course is not overly difficult: there are some tight spots, and some open, only a few really long holes. But overall the fairways are pretty easy to stay on unless something goes wrong with a shot(which we all know can happen on any pull). Like most of the courses down there if you get off in the ceder you are probably going ot have to just toss it out to get back on the fairway. After about the first 10 or so holes is where it opens up and you are throwing the longer shots, then it will shorten back up for the last few, but they are mostly open holes. I got my last ace on this course, hole 3..it was a skip thumber off the dirt mound in front of the basket!

I have played Ft Stockton, it is a very fun course...if the wind isn't blowing. If it is, it is still somewhat fun, but will be a lot tougher! The course is very technical for what you would think Ft. Stockton would be(I think flat and open when thinking about the land out that way, but it's not). The original 18 hole layout is mostly shorter holes, with good placement needed. They added, 6 more holes to make it 24 and those holes are longer and more open. 3 of the holes are across the road after I think hole 9 or so, then the other 3 are after hole 18 across the creek(this is where the signatur "Rattle Snake Hole" is). Worth a stop if you are going through there for sure!

Wilco is the other course, however, the courses have yet to be approved by PDGA for the "old lady" division (which I'll be playing if I register).

I'm sure WILCO will have no problem getting approved.

Of course playing all of the courses ahead of time would help you out: If you can only play one, I'd say play WILCO over Brushy Creek. Both for warmup for the tourey because this one is the harder of the two, and just because it's a better course IMO.

Going to Arlington in April. Does anyone have a recommendation for a Sunday morning course to hit in the area or on the way home?

Veterans is in Arlington and a good course to play. Gateway is in Fort Worth and is suppose to be a top rated course. Turner Park is not too far away and I hear it's a great course to. Being in Arlington puts you in the center of some very good courses...you can't go wrong with any of them!

As Patty said Veterans is a good one for sure! If you want to wait till you are on the way back, you could stop in Fort Worth and play Z-boaz!

The fam went down to Lake Jackson this past weekend to visit Jeanne's Dad and go to the beach. They had 2 courses in the area....neither of which are must play courses, but if you are in the area Dunbar Park is worth playing. It's mostly short holes in the 250-300' range with one being 380'. The cool thing about the course was the huge pecan trees, some I'm sure measuring 8-10' in diameter(think old baldy size, but pecan if you have gone camping with us) and the entire course was St. Augustine grass. I'm telling you...you could probably have played barefoot and been just fine. 16 & 17 were the best holes, almost got my first lefty ace on 16.
The other course was a 9 holer, and was all 190ish throws. Had a lot of trees, but there really was not much challenge there. Crazy how many squirrels were on the course at one time I counted like 16...and that was just in front of me!

Anyway 2 more courses to add to the played list, now up to 53 played.

Well we went camping at Jellystone Park down around Canyon lake this weekend...great and safe place to go if you have kids. They have all kinds of activities to keep them entertained. 2 swimming pools, and a kiddy splash pool, game room, air pillow(kind of like a trampoline but different), play ground, volleyball, basketball and much more. Plus there is a 9 hole disc golf course, not a really hard course...but still a fun one. Mostly short, but has several 90s to keep you honest.

If you are looking for a good place to take the kids and have some DG to do on the side. This is a good place!

I would Highly suggest that everyone considers playing of sippapu in New Mexico next year. You will probably only need four discs for the course. Putter two mid ranges and one thumb er slash hyzer disc. The elevation changes are extreme and the view is breath taking. The tournament was sold out a month in advance so be looking early and bring a jacket for morning rounds it will be about 50 degrees.

Well I got to play 2 "new to me" courses in Austin this weekend with Brandn and Cody Newton. The first course was the Metcenter....and HOLY COW this course was a tough one for sure. The first hole, both Brandn and myself took a 6!!! (cody took a 5). 1 and 18 are for sure the hardest, but the entire course is tough other than the few birdieable hole they threw in to make you feel a little better about the whoopin you are taking! Shot a 71 from the longs, their par is 63. GREAT COURSE if you are down that way...it is a MUST PLAY! Very long! It is very well kept and there is really no thick brush areas, but there are a TON of thick tree areas that have been cleaned out. I'd say I like Manor and Austin Bible Ridge better, but this is a good one for sure!

The 2nd course was North Town Park, and if I hadn't just played The Met, this would of been a super hard course. Not saying that it wasn't...just not has hard as the Metcenter. Kind of had the same feel, very thick trees, no real off the fair way brushiness like Manor or Austin Bible Ridge, but accuracy is a must. While there were a few long ones, nothing like the Met. Think I shot a 67 or something like that at this one and I can't remember the par.

Brandn beat me by 8 on the day, and it just happened that I yoyo putted 4 holes costing me...what do you know 8 strokes! By the end of these rounds I was DONE!

Both great coures if you are in the area. I'd play North Town first if these are the 2 you are playing bck to back. Though it might be better to have a fresher arm to play the Metcenter.

Oh, both would be exremely harder if they had water in the creeks! Or especially at the MetCenter if you played the tourney painted OB lines, this course might make you want to quit DG! Then want to go back and try it again!

Well ended up picking a very new course to the DFW area yesterday to play...and I'm glad I did. The course was Crossroads Disc Golf Course and like Austin Bible Ridge it's on a church property. Kind of reminded me of ABR, but a little shorter and no underbrush to contined with. But that doesn't mean it wasn't TIGHT! Also had some good elevation changes throwing both up and down hill. I'd say ABR is waaaaaay harder, but this course was no easy one. We met Brandon Young there, he had just finished his first round and shot a +6, but missed a hole. On our round we were tied going into the last hole at +15!!!! I ended up screwing it up and took a 4, he put it up close for an easy 3 to keep the #10 tag in Abilene.

Good time playing with both he and Jeanne on this course!

The Fountain Hills Course in AZ. I slew of good holes that has routes for right handed and lefty's. Many elevation changes and lots of opportunity to go OB. If you play this course you will be impressed with the Fountain it does shoot up into the air around 300ft and said to be able to reach 500ft. The Fountain has 3 600hp engines that moves the water but they only use two.

If you are in the area you can also play vista del camino, it is in a different layout for the memorial, but right beside the course is spinners disc and outdoor store, they have some pretty awesome disc!

Well, well..I got me a TI Force, THANKS MICAH!! This thing looks sooo sweet! So much so that I'm not sure if I can throw it or not??? Also relly liked the all black Nuke, might end up trying to get that one as well.

That TI Stalker looks like "Gold Line" plastic from Lat64, very cool looking, but said he was keeping that one.
