Hey Mark, afraid I'll be tied up in the mornings with work but there is a mini tomorrow night at Brentwood Park if you're looking to get out. $5 Random Doubles and it's a course where you won't lose a disc unless you REALLY try.
As for the parking lot for Middle Concho - keep driving until you're funneled into the park entrance. Take a left and park next to hole #3's teebox. Enjoy the round, finish at hole #2, and get into your vehicle that was parked in the shade! If you park near hole #1 - you won't have any shade trees.
Thanks Mike, went to Middle last nite and got in a few holes. Played about nine, but not in the right order, it was kinda hard to find the next tee in some cases. I kept walking to the area's where the ants are! They looked like natural tee pads to me!! heh. Quiet course too, not another disc golfer out there....
I knew you guys did a Wed. nite thing, but I'm busy tonite and can't make it. Appreciate the invite tho. Mornings are about the only time I can make it, wife likes to sleep in. I got lucky yesterday evening, she wanted to shop (Sunset Mall) so I dropped her off and got in a few holes.
You are right, if you don't know you way around...middle concho is a hard course to follow. All of the other courses in town will be much easier to follow. Only one you might have issue with is hole 3 at Picnic Bend. If you play there just go up the rock wall and you'll see the teebox on the hill. You will be throwing back to the big tree near the swingset.
And yeah, it's pretty quiet out there....Especially since the other 3 courses went in. Not a lot of people like to play it cause they think they will lose to many dics out there.
Sorry to hear you can't make it to the mini. That is where some of the most fun rounds are to be found.
What brings us in is our son is getting pinned as a chief petty officer at Goodfellow. At 3:30. We're back at the hotel now, but heading out for dinner w/the new chief. I really wanted to get out there and jam w/you guys, but our main reason for driving thousands of miles was for that. It's all good!
Middle Concho was a nice course, veru\y diff. from what I usually play. What kind of trees are those out there? Short things...
Anyhow, this keyboard sucks (laptop) and I'm gonna get off of this, but I've got access to Goodfellow tomorrow, and hear there's a course out there. Anyone know where it is? I will be at south concho tomorrow morning, ultra early, if anyone's up for it, and would like to do goodfellow b 4 I go.
oh-lost discs at this course? I'm surprised-there's a bit of water, but no shule....you should see the shule we play in-although if you do throw it in that lake, it was muddy, gonna be hard to find. although its prolly not that muddy normally, it's been rainin.
anyhow-if anyone can direct me to the course on base, mucho appreciado.
Man I wish I could have played a round with you while you were here. Hate it that none of the club members have been able to get out and throw with you. Don't guess you are staying through the weekend are you? We've got a doubles tourney this weekend.
The trees at Middle Concho are mesquite trees. Pretty much THE tree in this part of the country. Not a lot of tall trees out in West Texas, especially not like Ohio. I've been there once, not to play...but to go to the football hall of fame on my way to a Steeler game. (flights got cancelled to Cleveland so we jumped on a plan to Cinci, and drove to Canton, then to Cleveland{got to see Lake Erie, the only great lake I've ever seen, so it was worth it} to pick up our luggage that didn't make the cincy plane....then off to Pitt.)
Never been to the course on base...have heard it's not great, but then I heard it was OK. So let us know...most of us don't have access to that course.
If your disc comes into my shop I'll save it for you(if it has your name/number on it?) and give you a call.
As for the water, things stay pretty muddy around here. There is never a time you can see to the bottom....no matter how long it's been since the last rain.
Speaking of Ohio, isn't that where Worlds are going to be next year?
Played s. concho and brentwood this morning. turns out I couldn't get back on base. didn't lose any plastic, but do understand now why you guys might play those nine holers. lots of potential for wet plastic on s. concho. overall, cool courses, very diff. from what I'm used to, and a job well done to the club, I saw (and benefited from) a lot of work from you guys. Nice baskets at the two courses this morning. Nice weather too....I'll write more later, we're outta here in a coupled of hours.
We're back in Ohio now. Just wanted everyone to know I had a great time on your courses. Sorry I couldn't make it to the mini, I know I would've enjoyed....
I was initially surprised that the mini's were played on a nine hole course, I always try to find an 18 holer to play when I'm on the road, but after checking out one nine holer and both 18 hole courses, I understand-south Concho has a lot of water, and middle has some also. Great obstacles to mentally play through, but yeah, I hate the penalty too.
Thanks again for making disc golf happen in San Ang.-Everywhere I stopped there were courses nearby, I played every morning on the road. It's good to see the sport being supported in so many areas.
Take care Texans, and be sure to holler if you make it up for the Worlds.
Glad you liked the courses on your trip, and that you made it home safe.
For the record, there are at least 3 water holes on the other 9 holer that we play minis at. Water is just a part of San Angelo disc golf....besides, it's just water right?? hehe...
Doubt I am able to make it to Worlds on back to back years. But if I do, I'll look you up for sure. It was truely a great experience at KC this year. I do want to go back to Worlds.
Thank for taking the time to post and let us know what you thought!
