Well, had 17 people come in or sign up sunday to become 2008 CVDGA members. Those numbers will grow as the year goes by and more people make it in to signup.
But the elections are over with....here is your 2008 CVDGA Board Members and how to contact them for anything you might want to suggest or talk about:
Everyone should thank these people for stepping up and running for these positions. With out these positions filled we have no club. With no club disc golf will go no where. So remember when next year's elections come around, some of these people will probably be not run for the next year. So is it your turn to step up and help run things? That's for you to decide next year....as for now, I would like to thank all the other board members for their service this year as the 2008 CVDGA Board.

We didn't think about putting a place for PDGA numbers until we already had the signups sheets printed. I listed the people I know have PDGA numbers, and put the ones I knew.
Oh yeah, I knew(and told) you would have to remind me about that. I need you to fill out one of the membership forms so we have record of you being a member this year(fax it if you want 325-653-7999). Also need a form for Jason as well.

I have a form I can fax to you...but I didn't see this post till just now(2:57). The problem I see with 5 year memberships is....
who's going to keep up with who's been a member for 5 years starting this year...and who's been a member for 5 years starting next year...and who's signed up in 2010....you get the point. That is a lot of paper work to keep up with from year to year and board to board. Plus with the turn over in disc golf(meaning look at the "regular" when I started playing to the regulars now. I think Carl and Juice are the only ones that regularly play minis both then and now. Who knows who will be around playing regularly in 5 years from now. I plan to be playing in 5 years, but if you asked me 5 years ago about hockey. I would have told you I plan on playing hockey for the next 5 years. In which I only played 1 year after that......and haven't touched my hockey equipment since.
If we have a copy of that form in the computer, I'd be more than happy to host it on the site so that anyone could print it out. Another option would be to set up a CVDGA paypal account so that members could fill out their registration information and pay dues online. Of course this would be extra work... so I'm not a big fan of this idea. ;)

not to sound like an ass, but i think it sounds like a great idea.
More work, maybe, but having the process automated through a form online would be more cost effective and EASIER on those wanting to sign up. Just in the sense that that dont have to waint until they have time to make a trip to Cortese Flag or B42.. Plus it take the guess work out of those who have never done this before. You have every thing explained in one place while signing up online.
Those are the same reasons I brought up the ideas in the first place. It could be done... hell once we had that up it wouldn't be difficult to extend that function to preregistration for tournaments, sponsorships, and anything else the CVDGA might want to sell.
i like this idea too. maybe we could create membership page that included when you signed up the first time, if your membership fees are due, and maybe an objective you would like to see the club do.
This is going to get complicated in a hurry. Keep throwing out ideas - the next CVDGA board meeting will be in April and they can decide what they want to do.
As far as objectives we'd like to see the club accomplish, I think this message board is a good place for that. Everyone can throw out ideas and let everyone else discuss it. We just have to accept that not everyone will agree with us all the time.
holy crap, i could write the needed php to incorporate it in the site registration for this site in like a day or so... plus i know e107 like the back of my hand.. i would have used it for my site but I wanted to change it up a bit
You're more than welcome to if that's what the board decides to do. I haven't spent too much time with e107, I just used it so that I wouldn't have to code everything manually and (more importantly) it'd be easy to get support if the website needed to be turned over to someone else.
I like the idea of having online tourney registration. Thought about asking if this was possible for the Crush for next year. But I am not real sure how the "other end" of paypal works or how much of a hassel it would be.
Not so much on the membership signups. That's kind of the reason to have the annual night glow membership drive. Plus people aren't going to keep up with when their membership runs out..I signed up in May, I signed up in Feb. Who really wants to come on here to find out if someone is current or not???? It keeps things much easier and simpler if the memberships run from Feb. to Feb each year with a membership drive to re-up members. And with 2 shops in town to sign up at, if you can't make it to the membership drive....you're going to have to buy a disc at some point. Sign up when you do. While computers are great and most can't live without them...sometimes computers just get in the way.....Where the tourney signups would be more for the regional people, abilene, lubbock, ect. The memberships are a local thing, I just don't see it being a big hassel to swing by Cortese or Beluh to sign up once a year. Plus the fact that most DGers are not the richest people, I don't see many people signing up long term. I mean we get people coming out to the minis that have to pay with quarters, how are they going to come up with $40 to throw down for a 5 year membership.
I'll bring it up at the next meeting in April though.
As for the objective, there is a place for that on the membership signup form. Most everyone leaves it blank, or puts something non-club objective. Like, I saw one that said 100 players at the Crush or Go Big was another one...not something the club can control. But if something comes up between now and the next signups Mikey is right, this is the perfect place to do this. Why would we need another page to put club request. Just start at thread here like Mikey did at the first.
easy as that.....or you can always email one of your board members and ask them to bring the item at hand up at the next meeting. Or ask a board member if you can come to the next board meeting to present and idea. Like Mikey is going to do at the next meeting with example 1.

No problem, paypal isnt that big of an issue, in fact it makes things a lot easier.

True about the need to come on the site to check if someone is current but think about having to shuffle through papers to check if someone is a member and not someone just trying to get a 10% discount, in that sence a search feature on an online database is easier, much easier.

What if feb isnt a good financial point for someone and paying dues is low priority and they miss out because they were unable to pay in feb? with an online for its can be tracked easily and sorted by join date and name. Not as big an issue as it would seem.

I agree with you on this one that it would be a financial burden but with an automated system online you wouldnt have to refuse that option to those who desire it. andtracking it wouldnt be any harder.

Yes they are. But for record keeping? thats just asking for a mess because you just cant control who accesses and manipulates the threads in a forum. but info saved to a database and accessed only by those with adequate access rights is much safer.

I'm not going to go in and quote all your counter points...and no I am not saying what a.... I like the fact that you are throwing out ideas...Cause what I see is a board member for next year. People who throw out ideas and want to see things done need to understand the people who are running this club do it as a volunteer thing. They don't want to be burdened by doing it, and it can't take away time from the family and life outside of DG. Also they won't be doing it forever...so the "idea throwers" need to step up and take a board spot sooner or later. So here are my questions to your counter points.
The paypal issuse. Where does the money go, straight into a bank account or does it go to a person first?
Discount issue People who are not CVDGA members(for the most part) don't know about the 10% off. If I am not sure about someone, I ask...."are you a CVDGA member?" They say yes or no...if no I say well would you like to be, or something along those lines. If they lie about being a member, that 10% off isn't going to break me, and karma has a real good way of paying people back. So I am not worried about people just hunting a 10% off discount. But if they sign up online, I can't see their face when they sign up, so I can't remember them...which means I have to come look at this every time I sell a disc. Which just doesn't make sence to be as a retailer. It might for you, not sure what you do, but I bet it's not selling to say 20 customers in a day.
Signup times. You don't have to sign up in Feb. you can sign up anytime of the year. But your membership runs out in Feb. So if you wait till December to sign up your not using your membership to it's full potential. But it's your choice. Besides we're talking $10, if $10 is going to break you in Feb....maybe you(not you, just in general) should rethink buying that disc.
Closing times I do have limited hours...10-5 m-f. But Jamie is open on weekends and later in the day than I am. Plus I can promise you if I need to I can take the form to a mini for you to fill out and get you signed up. I just don't see that many people coming on here to sign up for a $10 10% CVDGA membership. Maybe I am wrong.....but I just don't see it.
Discussion board What do you mean you can't control who access and manipulates threads. As far as I know the only people who can change a thread other than the person that posted it is the mods. Which there are 2. Me and Mikey. So that's pretty controlled. Besides suggestions for the club to do this or that...who's really going to mess with it?
again I will bring all this up at the next meeting and see what the other board members have to say. If it gets shot down, it can always be brought back up again with the next board....
Oh yeah, if you go to the PDGA site to become a PDGA member you membership runs from Jan. to Jan. no matter when you sign up. So I don't see a problem with ours running from Feb. to Feb.
