So thought I would start a music thread to see what everybody is listening to. Favorite bands, songs, ect...
Favorite band(as if you didn't know): Pantera probably followed by Alice in chains Song: 5 minutes alone
Really digging Messhugah now adays though....also a band called Throwdown and The Ocean are pretty good. And the more I listen to Gorjia I like them as well. Demon Hunter is another up and coming band that really throws down(they are a christian metal band).
Also wanted to ask if anybody might have an old Mother Love Bone album I could borrow or burn me a copy of? I have heard a few songs lately and liked em, but not sure I want to buy the CD yet.
Let's see....I guess TOOL, followed by Rage, followed by Messhugah, followed by APC, followed by all the Seattle bands, Radiohead, and then Barbara Striesand...HE HE HE!!!
Mostly underground independent thrash metal such as Dryline,Jacknife,Hemlock,The Destro,BRD,The Handshake Murders and lots of others. Also a few some might of heard of Black Dahlia Murder,Blood Has Been Shed,Killswitch Engage,Norma Jean and Job For A Cowboy. And of course the mighty Tool,Pantera,Down types as well.
Oh, cool. I don't know much about Mother Love Bone, they I guess had broke up(or one of the guys died?) before I got into the grunge scene. I know Soundgarden named one of their first CDs mother love bone as a tribute....but that's about it.
Are you talking about Stone, the guy from Pearl Jam?
Damn! The old FAVORITE BAND question. Have to ponder that one. All the subcategories - Broken Up - Circa 1984-1990 - Genre - Way Too Much Time on my hands
Any old suplatura fans out there? If so Max and Igor Cavalera have reunited and put out a new album called Inflicked...the band is now called The Cavalera Conspiracy, haven't heard the whole thing yet...BUT what I have heard sure sounds good. So if you like the sound of old suplatura or Soul Fly, you may want to check it out. I've got one of their songs on the Warlock myspace page.
The 80's rock got me into that side of the music scene (Anthrax, Metallica, G n R, Motley Crue, etc.). Rush got me into Progressive....Pantera got me into metal. Dream Theater is both (plus more) so they're my all time favorite. I like Symphony X also. Anyone heard Blood Red Disciples? (Joel, Lee, Cliff,+1 more). They have some HEAVY shit! I think it would be great to get those guys to play at a disc golf tournament in the future...
Dont have 1 favorite song. I like too many...
I'll throw in my first concert. Type-O-negative opened up for Pantera at the Starplex (now the Smirnoff Ice Center?) in Dallas in '95. What an introduction to concert life!
WOW Jerry, I would have never guessed you were into Pantera...and what a show to start out with. That was the far beyond driven tour wasn't it? I'm pretty sure I went to that same tour...but on the second stop through Texas. As the show I went to was in a small hockey arena. Talk about a CRAZY show...if any of you have seen the Vulgar Videos Pantera put out, the part were the crowd was crowd-surfing on plywood...some of them on fire. I was there!!! I remember DimeBag going back stage to get a video camera, and coming back out getting on the mic and talking about how this was going on the video. Type O Negative opened the show. The singer just looked HUGE on stage(and like a vampire), they sounded much better live than they did on CD. But when Pantera came out...I knew I was were I needed to be. Unreal show...I went to 10 other Pantera shows after that one. Ahhhh the memories. In the next installment of Jason's Pantera shows, I'll talk about a girl spread eagle on the hood of a car...and what people were doing to her in the parking lot. Talk about a crazy show!!!!!!!!!!(Morbid Angel, some other band, Soul Fly, Pantera)
I have the new BRD CD, got it from Brad. I like it...need to catch them live. I agree it would be cool to have them playing at a DG tourney. Maybe they could do that at next year's Crush night glow? hint..hint Brad!!(make it happen) Back when Johnny Deleon was in his band, they were suppose to do that. But things happened and it didn't.
I do like one of the newer Dream Theater songs, can't remember the name of it. Never liked Rush to much, but I did like some of the 80s hair stuff back in the day(Motley Crue, Skid Row, and GnR for sure).
Dude, I think we were at the same show! It was a hockey rink. I remember the plywood planks on fire, and Phil Anselmo talking shit about Dave Mustaine and how Megadeth sucked, soldout, etc.. Yeah, that dude from Type O was massive!
I actually talked to Dimebag and Vinnie once. Dokken concert in '96. It was at Deep Elum Live, and afterwards Misti and I (yes, my wife...girlfriend at the time) we went around to the back to wait for autographs. Out the back comes these 2 guys. They asked us if we like the show. They asked Misti if she was with me. She said yes and they said have fun. Out of the shadows walks Dimebag and Vinnie. They walked off to a suberban and drove away. True story :)
Poor Dimebag RIP... Go Motley Crew, Skid Row and GnR. My favorite bands are From Autumn to Ashes(FATA), Bullet for my Vallent, Trivium. Tool, Underoath, and Norma Jean. Oh and on a softer not The red Jumpsuite Apparatus.
I have actually talked about doing a small show at The Crush, just didn't know if it would go over well.I CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN as long as I have permission from all those that I need it from....(Jason)
I'm sure we would need to OK it with the people that run the park...and I am sure we would have to be done by 10 or so. But I don't see why it couldn't happen. We just need to work on it between now and then.
I bet we were then Jerry, how crasy!!! During planet carivan did they put up a massive weed leaf spinning around?
Sure do love me some STP!!, or at least the first coupla albums. They are coming through TX at the end of June. Way too much going on for me to go. They are one of the few bands I didn't get to see.
Never have seen STP either. Big John had already sent me an email asking if I wanted to go when they came through. If it's June, that's a pretty tight month. We'll see....
Who are they going out with? If it was Alice in Chains...I'd probably want to go more. That guy they have singing for them did a hell of a job when we went to see them last year. Never got to see the real thing, but at least it was 3 of the original. They could call it the 30 something tour...cause you know it would be mostly 30 something year olds going.
