Was checking out the players in the INT2 spots in our pool. Looks like I maybe playing a 13/14 year old in one round. Then I play a person I beat at COTO in one. Also checked out Jeanne's matchups, other than Brandy, she beat the other 2 at Texas Women's this past April....THINGS ARE LOOKING UP FOR THE WARLOCK1 TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also they just posted the pools for the Merged and Emerging Divisions......I see there is an Abilene team again this year. Also see there is a Lubbock team...in the EMERGING???? WTF? I had heard Jeremey was bringing a team down....but I sure didn't think they would be aloud to go Emerging.
http://circularproductions.com/players_schedule.jpg Here is the schedule of were each pool will be playing Saturday. Our first round will be on the B50 back 9, with our second being the B50 front 9. Sucks we don't get to play the meadow at all on Saturday?!?!
But how lucky was that, looks like we will be on the same time schedule all day Saturday. Maybe we'll get to see each other in between matches this year. I don't think we got to see each other at all last year.
I'll answer for Mikey...Yes you must be at the course by 8am for THE players meeting(not a team meeting, although you may want to meet up with your teammates before this time...we usually head out together and then meet up on the way back to talk about how the match went, once you get back you will be sent right back out for your next match{depending on your schedule of course}) on Saturday morning. This players meeting is very important to be at as this is not just a normal tourney. There are things he will go over that you will need to hear. Plus once the player meeting is over they will send right out on your first match.
You've also got a tourney disc that you will need to pick up at the proshop desk. All players pick up their own tourney disc so they can mark you off the list.
*IMPORTANT* Team Captains, make sure when you pick up your team shirts you make sure they know they have a "meal ticket" in that package. If you don't have that meal ticket on Saturday you will not be eating Saturday.(we found this out the hard way last year)
hopefully I will be able to play Texas Teams next year & represent lil sa......but I'll be wishing all of you good shots & steady putting this weekend.......bring home gold & aces......GO TEAM SAN ANGELO!!!!!!!!!!!!
WARLOCKS WIN!!!! WARLOCKS WIN!!!! Not what you were thinking you would see on here this morning??? Well it might not be what you are thinking. While we did accomplish our goal for the weekend, we didn't win the event. But we did knock of 10(13 really) other teams in the mixmaster to live to fight another round. Patty, Brandn, and myself ended up shooting the best 9 hole alternate round on the back meadow out of any other team. Beating teams with Miles Seabourn, and other top pros.
So we started out in a tough pool with last years winners, and a waterloo2 team that has been together for several years, and know the courses very well. We held it close but lost our first round match to Pease, then again with Waterloo2 we held them close, but when the final 2 came in we needed 2 wins, and only got 1 win and 1 tie. Making us drop the 2nd match. After a lunch break we headed back out for our last match of the day(saturday) against a team from Houston called the Disc Doctors. Finally we got our first win in the established division beating them 9-2( #-o patty being one of those...hehe...). So that set us up for the mixmaters I metioned above. The 3 groups were Jeanne, Franky, and Nick throwing the front meadow on best shot, Patty, Brandn, and Jason on the back meadown playing alternate, and Carl, Johnny, and Pete on the front hill throwing alternate as well. Again that round got us into 7th place out of the 20 remaining teams(top 10 go through to the round of 16). The pool winners from the day before got to pick their opponites in the round of 16. Well Proturn picked us, and it was another close battle most matches being won or lost by only a stroke or 2, but they were more than we could handle this year. From what I understand they went on to win the next round only to fall in the semis. Team Crowley Green ended up taking the established division in the finals. And they completed the sweep by taking the merged division as well.
Oh I guess by now you are asking why I put "Warlocks Win" at the top. Well while we may not have won the actual event they do hand out a few other "titles" throughout the weekend. John Houck had heard about our brewery trips on the way up to Teams, he was told about our attitudes on the coures whether under winning circumstances, or losing ones....and he has meet several of us and know that we are at this event for the true meaning of it. To have a great time, enjoy some competition, play some great disc golf with some buddies...both on and off our team. And to make as many friends with other teams as we can. So in the eyes of John Houck himself he awared the Warlcoks the Team Spirit award, and told me directly that we embody the exact attitudes and team presents that this event was made for in the first place.
So congrats to all the Warlocks this weeeknd, I hope you had as good of a time playing as I did captaining and being a player on this team. I want to thank all of my teammates for playing in this event. I think we showed the rest of Texas that we were there not only there to play but to compete. From the sound of it, a disc not in a bush here or there in the back 50, or a putt that would have gone in here or there could have turned some of those early matches, and possibly even the last match in the playoffs. My hopes before we started the weekend were of course #1 to have a blast, but #2 was well again to have a blast...but closely after that was to be playing on Sunday afternoon in the playoffs and we did just that. Now I think we are ready for a run in the playoffs next year....and as you all know once you are in the playoffs anything can happen!!!! GO WARLOCKS!!!!!! Can't wait for next year!!!
I had a freakin blast!!!!!I can not wait till next year...I would love to go again as Warlock if they will have me!!!!Best tourney of the year by far!!!!
This hopefully speaks for our team as well. We went out there and just had fun and luck went our way in the last round to knock the abilene/austin team out of the playoffs and that was a win we all deserved. Even though it was rough all weekend i know i had a blast and that was by far one of the best tournaments hands down. Our team was inexperienced but well be gunning for the spots really soon.
Experience does play a lot into Texas Teams....all you guys that this was your first year will be better off for playing this year, next year for sure. You'll know the courses better, you'll know the comp. better, and you know the style of play it takes to win now. I think all 3 teams will be better next year for having played this year(even if they are not the exact same players).....now we just gotta hope and pray they have it again next year. I got an email from John Houck yesterday saying they are very unsure at this point about next year. So we'll see I guess. If it doesn't happen, man am I glad you 8 new guys got to do it at least once, that the rest of us got to do it again....and I am hella glad we got to play in the established division at least once!!!
It was an absolutely fantastic tournament and I would highly recommend that everyone play in it if they get the chance. Jason summed up the weekend pretty well in his post, but I wanted to pass on a big thanks to my team for coming together and making it happen! I'll try to get us a little more organized next year.
Jerry - you need to bring a real Abilene team next year. The group we beat hadn't played in Abilene in years! Made me glad we were able to stomp them in our final round to give Lubbock their spot in the playoffs. Go team CVDGA!
http://www.circularproductions.com/tx_teams_results_2008.html Here's a link to the final results and updated photos from the tourney. I'd like to point out those Mix Master scores from the Back 9 of the Rolling Meadow, Patty, Brandn, and myself....best round of the enitre 22 team group!!!!!
Can't wait for next year....if it happens [-O< :-SS
Well I just read some very bad news for any of us wanting Texas Teams 2009.....On the HOTT Tour thread on the PDGA board(under tourneys), Mitch Justice just posted that Circle R and the Ranch is up for sale..... :(
Man these last 3 years of going to this event has been a blast....sure hope it doesn't end, but if it does...I guess at least I did get to go 3 years.
