Well since our head Admin locked the other Abilene DG thread...figured I better start a new one since they are having an event up there this weekend.
Just FYI...The Abilene guys are starting the second half of their Cal Young Expansion series this weekend. Anybody up that way and looking for a game, head over to Cal Young and get signed up in the 1st of the second half events.

More info can be found on the www.abilenediscgolf.net site. Never wanted your approval Never wanted your acceptance Never wanted to be anything but me Never wanted to be anywhere but here.
You beat me to it!....what he said. I'm going to make a presentation at the Roatary club luncheon this Friday and next month, the Rotary club is going to have a picnic/disc golf tournament amongst themselves. It will be a scramble-type format (2-3 member teams, best shot) with 1 local in the group to guide them along and help out with rules, technique, strategy, etc. Should be fun.
Also, I hope to get the new sleeves in the ground very soon. It will be a nice change to play different pin locations. Most of the trees that were planted last October are still alive and if we keep getting fairly good rains they should start coming into play within a few years. Jerry Kingston #23837
Also, one last comment on the previous Abilene thread...
I apologize to you Brandon for the personal attacks in my post. But only the personal attacks. I stand behind everything else. If you want to discuss those issues further, talk to me directly. One things for sure, I need to have a pen and paper on me at all times so I dont forget issues that come up.
btw, the Zone was approved 5-28-08 Jerry Kingston #23837
Can't wait to play Cal Young with some different pins....and I bet you guys REALLY can't wait! Heck, if the lake stays the same for more that a couple of months I get tired of it.... Never wanted your approval Never wanted your acceptance Never wanted to be anything but me Never wanted to be anywhere but here.
Bad news to report. Somebody decided it would be cool to steal some baskets, so sometime last night the baskets on hole 2 and 4 at Will Hair were stolen(mostly) . Everything was taken except for the poles...so the course is still playable, but its still a pretty shity deal. Looks like we will have to use some of the money set aside for tee pads and buy some replacments. What a shame.
The city is going to spot weld the pieces on the remaining baskets together...at both parks. Whoever did this better hope their not discovered...cause the locals are looking for blood. Jerry Kingston #23837
One more thing regarding the park expansion series. We have discountinued the Am2 division. We had 5 sign up the first event...and none in the next events. The 3 that have played since then have agreed to be moved up to Am1 and their bonus money rolled up with them. So, we have Am1 at $20, and Pro at $25 for the rest of the series. Jerry Kingston #23837
Sorry to hear about the stolen baskets....that sucks. What brand were they? I'm sure you do...but do you guys have a way to order straight from innova at wholesale? I'd be glad to order them for you if you don't, could have them dropped shipped to you. Be glad to help out if I can.
Welding the baskets together maybe a good thing for us to look into also. I know Brentwood's are, but the rest aren't. my second identity
I've never looked into ordering baskets, so I'm not sure. We do have an account set up with Innova...the one that rolled over from Circular Productions when Houck quit distributing for them. I'll let you know if I need help Jerry Kingston #23837
If you have an account, I'm sure they'll take care of you....We had to order a pan last year when they mowed over our basket(WTF???)...so they sell just pieces. But like I said, anything I can do to help. Never wanted your approval Never wanted your acceptance Never wanted to be anything but me Never wanted to be anywhere but here.
Finally got the website updated. Cal Young PES standing are updated...Blake got a good lead for the bonus. I think I have every event left in the region tournament season up there on the Upcoming Events section. Jerry Kingston #23837
Bob got our sleeves done this weekend, so we should see some new pin locations soon at Cal Young. The holes are scheduled to be dug in 2 weeks and pending the cities approval, we should have the sleeves in the ground by the end of August. Can't wait!! Jerry Kingston #23837

Great news....I may have to take a saturday trip up there to make a mini, or maybe one of the CYE series to try them out. Let us know when they are in the ground.
You guys have to get approval from the city as to where you can put new sleeves?
Never wanted your approval Never wanted your acceptance Never wanted to be anything but me Never wanted to be anywhere but here.
Well, the head of the parks needs to know yeah...to make sure we're not too close the ball fields, playgrounds, picnic tables, etc. Really its more just keeping him in the loop...he's been really cool with disc golf. Once we show him the locations and he approves, were good. So, not the city...just him really. Jerry Kingston #23837
Gotcha. I guess it is more of a public park than our lake course is. With the lake, we very rarely...if ever ask for approval of anything we do out there.(which is the only course with movable baskets..and teeboxes for that matter).
Still can't wait for new holes at cal young. Never wanted your approval Never wanted your acceptance Never wanted to be anything but me Never wanted to be anywhere but here.
Yeah...no one from out of town sees it, but in the Spring the ball fields and the parking lots are used a lot. Theres been plenty of cars hit in the parking lot by hole 12. There are a few holes that arent going to have the greatest alternate placments because of exsisting structures...but we'll do the best we can. Anything different will be a plus! Jerry Kingston #23837
New sleeve planting is underway. We have new sleeves in the ground for hole 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18. After the rains last week, we decided to get started on some of them (though most were still a pain in the ass to dig). After talking to the city, they are going to punch the rest of the holes for us and come up with a way to make them more visible so *hopefully* the mowers wont run over them (which I'm sure will happen eventually anyway...but who knows). And, they are going to move a picnic table/benches by Hole 11 so we can move it longer. It wont happen until the winter, but I was pleasently surprised that they were going to accomodate us for that hole.
So it looks like all the new sleeves (minus hole 11) should be planted in the next few weeks. Everyone is pretty excited to change things up!! Jerry Kingston #23837
The Cal Young PES #5 for this past weekend was postponed due to haevy rains. I decided to use the makeup date and hold out for a better turnout (hopefully). We have a make up date set, so in 3 weeks, #5 will be Spetember 6 and #6 will be September 20.
Last Thursday, Alan and a few others were supposed to get the rest of our new sleeves planted. I havent talked to him since then and I havent been out to check. But, I do know that we had 10 sleeves in the ground as of last Monday. Once things dry up, we will start working on getting the existing baskets out of the current sleeves (none of these baskets have come out of their sleeves in many years!) I hope we get to play at least the last series event from different locations *crossing fingers* Jerry Kingston #23837
All the sleeves are planted. We are trying to figure out a way to cap them to keep the dirt and water out of them. Maybe a PVC cap painted bright orange so they hopefully wont get torn up by the mowers...then have a more permanent solution later.
You have to have vision on some of these new positions (i.e. invision future trees!!), but they should provide some nice variety. And, there are plenty of new course records to be set now! Jerry Kingston #23837
If your guys are anything like the guys that take care of the lake.....they'll just mow right over them no matter what you mark them with!!!! Actually, they won't even let us cap our alt. pins. Cause they don't want to have to mow around them. They actually have trouble missing benches, teemarkers...and even baskets here!
**disclaimer:these problems are only at the lake, the city parks dept. does a great job at Brentwood and Picnic.** Never wanted your approval Never wanted your acceptance Never wanted to be anything but me Never wanted to be anywhere but here.
Wanted to give everyone an update since I wont be able to get the website updated until at least next week.
Blake won Pro at Series event #5...pretty much locked up the bonus. Jr. won Am's...and almost has the Am bonus locked up. It was a happy day for me! I skip aced #18 on the first shot of rd. 2 and took home $394 .
The series thus far has raised about $2,000. Still a long way to go, but its a start!
I'll get the detials on event #5 updated as soon as I can. Jerry Kingston #23837
Congrats on the Ace Jerry...oh and the money, that's a nice little bonus for all you are doing up there.....
and tell Jr to quit sandbaggin down in Ams!!! He's not fooling anybody anymore Never wanted your approval Never wanted your acceptance Never wanted to be anything but me Never wanted to be anywhere but here.
Hehe...he just started playing on the 'A' card when we do singles on Sat. Maybe he heard you... The money was nice...probably kick some back to help replace the baskets at Will Hair...and the rest will go into my Worlds 2009 fund.
I actually got some time last night to update the site. You can go there for Sat. results and the current points standings. Im glad the last one is almost here too....my time is pretty limited right now. Jerry Kingston #23837
We had a little snag on our new pin placements the first time around as the pipe that we bought was the wrong size...so the baskets didnt fit Gary Neal got all that put together and I think we were sold the wrong size pipe. OD was correct, but the gage of steal was too big...so the ID was wrong. There could have been some wrong measurments, but Gary is a plumber...he understands measuring pipe and OD, ID, etc. Hard for me to believe he measured wrong. Long story short, we got new sleeves in the ground and now have almost all the baskets moved. Hole 9 and 14 are the same (for now) because we could not get them out of their current sleeves. 16 stays the same because we couldnt get a hole drilled...very unforgiving ground there (plus its our signature hole) and 11 will wait until we get some park equipment moved to make the long posistion playable.
I'm making plans for next years fund raisers for the Park Expansion and I think the first event in the spring is going to be a team event. Still working out the details, but it will be a one day event with teams of 4. The idea will hopefully help get high school, college, and military peeps involved...which will help get the mayor involved...which will help get the city as a whole more involved...$$$ More details as I get them ironed out. SA guys interested...ASU student perhaps too?
We had a "club" meeting a few weeks ago and Joe Simpson is going to start putting together documents to get our club officially going again. More details on that later. Also, we decided to set our Sat. mini formats more firmly to avoid confusion. 1st and 3rd Sat. of every month is Handicaps , 2nd Sat is Singles in divisions, 4th Sat. is semi random draw doubles. If there is a 5th sat., we will do something different (backwards course, B-course, 1 disc short course, etc.)
Thats it for now. Look forward to seeing you guys in the next few weeks Jerry Kingston #23837
Man that sucks..hope you didn't set to many before you noticed that.
I can almost guarantee you that the Warlocks will send at least one team, but probably 2 teams. Especially if it's only 4 man teams. As for an ASU team, that would be up Thomas's allie. He's trying to get a team put togehter for Texas Teams. So I bet if he pulls that off, he can get one for this as well. Hope it works out better for you guys than the one we tried. Anyway, I am in for a team event any time.
Never wanted your approval Never wanted your acceptance Never wanted to be anything but me Never wanted to be anywhere but here.
btw- Why don't you guys ever send a team to Texas Teams Jerry? Seems like you guys would be more set up to do that than us, and we are sending 2 teams for sure...maybe 3(with talk of even a possible 4th although I think that is pushing it).
