Well I have not got this year's Ice Bowl registered on IcebowlHQ.com...which also means the date is set and it's time to start spreading the word of the fun that can only be had at the CVDGA's annual Ice Bowl Party!!!
Date: Jan. 26th
Charity: Salvation Army
Signups: 9:15ish
Holes: TBD, thinking about trying to add a couple of "interesting" holes.
I'm guessing cost will be the same, but I'll know for sure after our board meeting next week.
As most know this is a charity event put on by the CVDGA, Cortese Flag, and Bright Brewing to help support the local Salvation Army. This will be our 4th year doing it for the Salvation Army and hope it turns out to be our biggest donation year. So be sure to bring at least the 3 cans of food and more if you can. These people are the ones that directly help those in need in our community. So let’s do all we can!!!
As it’s been for the past few years it will again be a 2 disc challenge, but this year you will also be required to have a mini. As it was last year we will be doing the lost disc on the roof rule. If you don’t remember it’s pretty simple, if you throw a disc on the roof you have lost it for the day, if you throw both on the roof you are done for the day. Mark has spent a lot of time and money on his roof over the past few years and is currently doing more roof work and doesn’t need a bunch of disc golfers climbing up there denting and possibly damaging anything. So please be respectful of his wishes.
Date: Jan 26th
Registration start time 9:15ish
Holes: 2 rounds of what may end up being 12 holes (including one mini hole)
Shirts and minis will be given to the first 50 players signed up!
Entry: $15 plus 3 cans of food (if no food $30 to play)
Ace Pot: $5
2 divisions: Mens and Womens
A portion of the entry will go to cash payout for top 1/3 or so of the field. You must be present to accept your cash. If you leave early we’ll put it towards the donation to the Salvation Army.
This event also doubles and triples as our 2013 Membership Drive and our 2013 CVDGA Board Member Elections.
ICE BOWL WEEK IS HERE!!! Now if we can just get through the work week....COME ON SATURDAY!!!
Well Patty and myself went out and flagged off most of the course Friday, and worked out the details for the 2 new holes. One hole is going to be a mini basket hole, that you will need a mini for! So please don't forget your mini(no metal minis allowed....you'll understand why when you play the hole). The other new hole is going to be a island hole with 3 islands to land on(with the basket being on the furthest island away from the teebox each direction).
So we will be playing 1 rounds of 24(2 loops of 12) in the morning and 1 rounds of 24(2 loops of 12) in the afternoon.
Registrations will start at 9:15, hopefully we'll be ready to teeoff at 10-10:30.
Mark will be cooking brisket sandwiches for lunch and should have a signup sheet for everyone ordering to sign up on to keep orders coming out in the order placed this time.
There will be 50 shirts and 50 mini sets given to the first 50 signed up. Only people actually in line can sign up and receive a players pack.
Also we will have a computer out this year to help with the scorekeeping...so things should go smoother this year!
Patty will be at the 2nd signup station with 2013 membership signups. It is only $10 this year to sign up as there are no new bag tags this year.
Things looked good after we got it all setup today. Think the 2 new holes should be fun. Everyone drive safe on the way out, especially all you out-of-towners!
Well the 6th Ice Bowl is in the books, and I hope everyone had a great time once again! I know I did and look forward to next year! We did have a little drop off in attendance this year going from 85 last year to 64 this year. Which does hurt the totals going to the Salvation Army, but hey we did what we could do with the support we got for the event.
I'd like to thank all the Out-of-Towners that made thet trip it...While I haven't actually gone down the list and counted, I hate to say it but I think there were more of you supporting the event than local disc golfers?? So please if you came in from other areas pat yourself on the back and know that you are making a difference!!!! Thank you!
I also want to thank Mark for letting us have our little party at his place each year. This event wouldn't be near as fun for those of us who "fully participate" in it without him.
Thanks to Brad for hooking us up with music for the day...even though there was some country the mix seemed to be good. Only thing is I think we'll have to turn it down just a little next year so hopefully people can hear the "heads up calls" for off aimed discs!
Also thanks to the CVDGA, Patty, Cookie, and Jeanne(and anyone else that helped count scores) for helping me out with setup, signups, making cards, and throughout the day moving baskets.
Also thank to Cortese Flag for doing the shirts for this event at a VERY LOW cost...which helps hugely on what we can donate to the Salvation Army.
I hope everyone had a great time, and hope to see you all back next year...and maybe we'll see the other 20 from last year that didn't show this year! If not....guess what the rest of us will still have a great time in Eola no matter how big or small turnout is.
I'll get the scores posted here hopefully tonight.
We are 1 year away from the next one....so start spreading the word!!!
Had fun as always...thanks to the CVDGA for putting this on.
On behalf of the ADGA I want to apologize to Mark and the CVDGA for the drama that took place...I know its nothing we're directly responsible for, but it makes us, and all disc golfers look bad nonetheless. We're trying to work through exactly why everything happened to get some closure to the whole thing. Brad is doing ok...he got beat up pretty good but he is on the mend.
I did like the mini hole and the island hole. And I liked not having to throw from on top of the fence this year. As far as 24 holes, my feet told me it was too much but the rest of me loved it! I would say that for 64 players, 24 holes is probably the limit. If 85 had shown up, we might not have gotten done by dark with that many holes.
Look forward to seeing some at our Ice Bowl Feb 9 and then at the Crush in March!
I had an absolute blast...thanks Jason for running such a great event. Thanks to all who made it and made it fun. Drama is a part of life, glad to hear Brad is doing good. Thanks Cookie for driving me home. Really liked the island holes...even though I shot an 8 first time thru. Mini hole was awesome as well, wished it would have been aced. Look forward to next year.
Like I said many times during the day, man I'm having fun! Thanks Mark, I owe you. Thanks to everyone that came out and especially to those of you that joined the CVDGA. Jason, Donovan the island hole was perfect, glad to help buddy. Love my shirt, can't wait for the movie!
